There are a number of things to consider when setting up a blog
Most should be pretty obvious but there are other factors you might want to consider
This list will help
- The name of your blog, what are you going to call it
- What are you going to be blogging about
- Will you have categories and sub-categories
- How often you are going to publish a post
These are just a few things you should have already thought about if you intend to start a blog
Setting Up A Blog
Blog Name
Firstly, what is your blogs name
It doesn’t have to be the first thing you decide as you might have a few options, but you will need to come up with a name for it. You need something you can relate to in some way shape or form
This name will need to be something easy to remember for your readers. You want them to remember it so they know which site to revisit each time
The name can be meaningful to you or the content. Just ensure there are no trademarked brands being used in its name, to avoid any issues in the future
Blog Content
Deciding what to blog about can be the first stumbling block for some. Others will have pages and pages of ideas to create content from, but you need to get those ideas written up which can take time
Whether it is your children, fashion, beauty, making extra money, pets – whatever. It is your blog and the content is entirely up to you, write what you feel you want to write about
As your blog develops you might find your make focus swaying. As in life things change and this makes no difference to your blog. You can adapt the content how you feel fit. You don’t need to change or delete historic posts, this will still bring your blog readers
Categories
The next step is to think about the categories you are going to have on your blog, these will be on your menu bar. Categories can also have subcategories too
If you are looking to be a beauty blogger you can have Make Up as a category and then a few subcategories such as, lipstick, eyeshadow, blush
This doesn’t need to be your definitive list as it can be amended and added to if you so wish at a later date
It is a good starting point and it will help you to get your content planned and written to help get you up and running
Publishing Posts
Let me just start off by saying everyday is not do-able for most people
Do not make the mistake of setting this as a goal. Being disappointed when it isn’t achieved will not help you progress further.
Instead opt for once a week as your publishing goal, which gives you more time to work on content
It is better to be a bit more realistic when making your plan, you can always post more if you have more and then there is less pressure on you. There are times of the year like Blogtober or Blogmas when people opt to publish more content
For the purpose of increasing your domain authority it is wise posting weekly at the minimum. If you spend a month without posting any new content this might reduce your domain authority score. Which is the complete opposite of what you ultimately need for your blog
Domain authority score is something you can read about further down the line. For now just focus on your content and getting it published
