The Importance of SEO

SEO is an abbreviation of Search Engine Optimisation

This is how well your blog post can be seen in organic search engine results. So this would be unpaid results. Hopefully getting your post on page 1 of a Google search, would be the dream for all bloggers.

It’s the holy grail where all bloggers and website owners desire to be.

If you are blogging about a small niche, you are more likely to be ranked higher, as there are fewer sources and competitors in your niche. As long as you are using SEO properly and featuring the appropriate keywords for your content;

Some companies outsource their SEO which shows the importance of SEO. As a blogger, this isn’t necessarily an option financially so making these improvements yourself is key to ensuring good performance.

Tips To Improve SEO

  • Search Engines – Google, Yahoo and Bing all have a facility for you to manually submit your site index to them. Also look at blog directories such as Bloglovin where you can once again link back to your site. Bloglovin is also a great way to read and chat with other bloggers.
  • Plugins – Yoast plugins in particular. The aim is to set a keyword and have a green light for SEO as you write your copy. It is a traffic light system with prompts and tips to help improve. This is achieved through using said keyword, meta tags, descriptions and links. Using a plugin enables you to visually see that each post is green, and therefore great for SEO
  • Backlinks – When a site links back to yours this is known as a backlink. You can increase your backlinks by linking back to content you have already written in other posts. Commenting on other blogs especially those using comment luv, is also a great way to back link as you leave your website when you comment
  • Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest are great ways to redirect traffic to your blog. As your readers are more likely to RT or re-share your content for you, especially posts which interest them

SEO Performance

The better your SEO skills the chances are the better performing your blog will be

You can of course choose to use a SEO firm to help with the performance of your website. This could be an advantage to someone who doesn’t yet have the know-how

The thing to consider is if your blog is performing well, you are more likely to be approached by brands or sponsors. Assuming this is the avenue you are looking to go down

The importance of being self-hosted talks more about brands and sponsorship in more detail

Whatever your goal is with creating your blog, mastering SEO should be high on your agenda. The better SEO the better the visibility.
