Something I have been seeing so much more recently is Vitamin C in skincare.
I had only really associated Vitamin C in my diet before, like ensuring you eat enough Vitamin C for health benefits. Taking my extra vitamin C tablets if I felt like I was lacking slightly in my immunity.
I have been looking into the benefitting factors in skincare and they are really something I thought was worth sharing. Especially as more and more skincare products seem to be on the market including Vitamin C.
Vitamin C In Skincare
What Is Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps aid skin repair. It is a natural antioxidant and in the same way that it is important in your diet, it is equally as important in your skincare routine. Vitamin C can also be taken in liposomal form. What is liposomal vitamin C? Liposomal means in this instance that vitamin c is contained within a liposome that mimics the cell membranes. This is thought to protect vitamin c as it travels through the body whilst also being delivered to the cells faster via the digestive system. Vitamin C helps aid skin repair. It is a natural antioxidant and in the same way, it is important in your diet and is equally as important in your skincare routine.
It helps offset daily aggressors like pollution and UV rays on your skin. While it doesn’t protect it completely it does help neutralise the damage caused and help repair it too.
For instance, dark spots and hyperpigmentation can be reduced in appearance. By introducing more vitamin C to that area of skin means the skin will naturally try and heal itself.
Vitamin C accelerates the production of collagen and elastin. These are fibres in our skin which help plump and firm the skin, as well as delay premature ageing.
Among the Best Vitamins for Radiant and Healthy Skin, Vitamin C tends to stand out for its multitasking benefits, especially in protecting against environmental stressors and promoting skin regeneration.
Many Vitamin C products boast their qualities, but the most important ingredient listed is L-ascorbic acid. This is Vitamin C in its purest form and most powerful.
Furthermore, it is because of these reasons that Vitamin C is a popular ingredient in both high-end and affordable skincare products.
Using Vitamin C In Skincare
The best form to use vitamin C in would be as a serum. Serums are known to be more effective than creams or lotions and are used underneath your moisturiser. Once you have cleansed your face in the morning apply your vitamin C serum then. They should always be out first base when applying our skincare to have the maximum benefits
I have been using a Derma-roller on my face for a number of years now and this is something I do once I have applied my serum. It is said to help with the absorption.
Any product containing Vitamin C should be kept out of direct sunlight.
The UV rays from the sun break down the Vitamin C concentration hence it being the first layer in our skincare routine too. It will have time to absorb into our skin before being exposed to sunlight or UV rays.
Vitamin C products come in concentrations of 5% up to 30%. If you have sensitive skin or any skin concerns start at 5% and then build up over time assuming you do get any reaction. Vitamin C is generally a pretty safe product to use on your skin.
Like all skincare products they should only be used at certain times in your routine. If you are using retinoids do not use Vitamin C as they both become less effective when used together. Hence using Vitamin C in the morning at the start of your day.
Vitamin C is also known to help with fine lines and wrinkles.
If you have these concerns and are not keen on the idea of having Botox to smooth them out try adding some Vitamin C products into your routine.
