How to develop a blog post editing mindset

I will talk a little bit about the blog post editing mindset and why it’s important. Obviously, we know what that means. Basically, the mindset to edit your content after publishing it.

It could be after one day, or two days, etc. And you might think it’s easy which indeed is but everyone struggles to do that.

How to get yourself to edit the old content on your blog? That’s what I’m going to talk about in this “How to develop a blog post editing mindset” post.

For this, you will need to have the motivation to do it but it’s also the determination because it’s so important for our blog. And here on How to develop a blog post editing mindset, I will mention how could that be possible.

Make sure to keep reading until the end to know more about it.

It might feel heavy thinking about editing your old content or blog posts. And that’s basically how everyone feels or at least the majority of people. And when I say editing, I mean adding information to the old one and correcting mistakes in old content. Also, adding missing SEO stuff.

Outdated information can lead to a negative impact on your blog and editing will help you to fix and avoid that.

At first, it will be a struggle to get on the editing part if you have been blogging for a while as you will have tons of posts. That’s why I said it’s perfect for people who just started blogging.

This way, start from the beginning and will have fewer blog posts to worry about.

Another reason that makes editing really important is that if Google finds that you update your content regularly, your domain and blog will be trusted and let you appear on the top search results. So, it’s so important thing to do that is a big part of SEO.

Once you develop the mindset of editing the blog post. It will be easier for you to keep editing and editing. This is something that when you keep doing, it gets easier and easier. It’s getting easier the more you do it could mean an incentive to help you to start and later will be easy for you.

1-Determine why

Here on how to develop a blog post editing mindset, we need to know how to develop it when you even don’t know about it. Well, the first thing to do is that you need to set a reason for you to do it. Take your time to learn more about it. It should be something that will get you going. There is no point in doing it when there is no good purpose and there will be zero motivation for doing it anyway.

Some people think it’s not really important but that is because they haven’t figured out a good reason for doing it. Well, I already mentioned which is good for SEO and being trusted by the number one search engine. It’s enough for any blogger to get started and edit.

Make sure to go through your old posts, I’m pretty sure that you will have a reason to go back and edit them. For grammar mistakes or typos. You want to look professional because it’s a community and other people would check any post on your blog. If they find these things on your blog, instantly turn them off. I doubt they would want to check more of your content and that is going to hurt your engagement.

The purpose of your blog post can also be a reason. If you share to help others, you would want to update and give them more information when you have. Don’t write a new post talking about it, Instead, make sure to go back to the old one and update it.

2-Simplify it for yourself

Now that you have the reason, you might feel unmotivated to edit anything just because you don’t know where to start. And that will make you think it’s a lot of work. Which is not true. It could be whatever you want to edit. Therefore, you can simplify it for yourself. That’s how to develop a blog post editing mindset even if you don’t have anything.

Make it easy for you to a point where you can do it. Start slow and simple and once you get into it more. You will find yourself being able to do more than that. And from there, you can add more things to edit and it won’t affect the progress of your developing editing mindset.

Some examples of how you can simplify it. Well, it depends on the why. For example, if you want to edit to make it more SEO optimised. Then, you will need to know what to do. If you want to add more information. In the beginning, you can choose to add 500 words for the first time. Don’t overdo it because it will not be good for you and your motivation.

There are a lot of things that you could simplify. Basically, make the first 4-5 times of your editing as easy as possible for yourself. Just because to build the mindset of editing and let it become a habit. Then, it would be simple for you to add more as you keep editing. That’s another way how to develop a blog post editing mindset.

You will give yourself a clear task of what to do and that alone will help you not feel lost. I’m doing this even though I’ve been editing for a while. But I feel like it’s important to do it easily and simply than stress yourself which leads to not doing it anymore haha.

3-Reward yourself for doing it

Don’t think you would look stupid doing this. Because you deserve to be rewarded for posting, editing, and for anything you accomplish. It doesn’t have to be one way or one thing. There are a lot of ways to reward yourself for doing whatever you needed to do.

During the process of building and developing the editing mindset, you will get through tough times trying to stay consistent. Maybe edit more. But, take it easy and make sure to get a reward after each time you edit.

It’s not one thing and it’s over. So this will help you to stay motivated and keep going in the long run. That would be another way how to develop a blog post editing mindset.

Reward yourself with something to eat. Maybe something you want to do like watching TikTok while eating your favourite snack. Whatever you like to do, you can do it after editing. It could be just lying down and relaxing. That’s a rewarding time to relax a bit from work. How to develop a blog post editing mindset is not always about doing things toward the goal of having the editing mindset. But also, about yourself and how you feel. You don’t want to be overwhelmed and not give editing a little bit of your time. Balance is everything.

This is a way to motivate yourself to do it and also keep doing it for a long time. And it doesn’t have to be after editing. It could be before editing because whatever you were doing before might get you overwhelmed and make you think that you don’t have time to edit it. And that’s not something we need to do.
