In our fast-paced and demanding world, a good night’s sleep is more crucial than ever for overall well-being and productivity. Yet, achieving the perfect night’s sleep can be elusive for many. From busy schedules to the constant buzz of technology, various factors can interfere with our ability to unwind and enjoy restful sleep. Fortunately, there are effective strategies to create the perfect night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and revitalised.

So many of us struggle even on a day to day basis to get a good night’s sleep. This can be a lifelong concern for many and they have to catch up with naps where possible.

Have you longed to create the perfect night’s sleep, but just don’t know why you aren’t getting it right? Having better sleep can also help with health so it is vital to ensure we get enough sleep in order for our bodies to re-charge.

If you are looking to try a sleeping aid I can highly recommend Sleeping Beauty supplements. They are a natural formula which is designed to help hormonal behaviour which in turn helps create better sleep. Steering clear of any artificial supplements as these are proven to be less beneficial.

If you are looking for a more holistic approach to aid your sleep cycle, Tea and Tonic would be a good place to source some products. Using adaptogen super herbs to support not only sleep but also skincare. These herbs help improve one’s resistance to stress, support the immune system, and promote skin health & overall wellness.

The Tea and Tonic inviting sleep body oil is a must try for its luxurious silky texture and relaxing aroma. Applying a generous amount to your skin before bedtime will leave your skin glowing and your body feeling rested.

How To Create The Perfect Night Sleep

The Perfect Night Sleep

Quite often the issue is with the place you are sleeping, which for most primarily is your bedroom. There are a number of things you can check to ensure your bedroom is as tranquil as possible.

Small adaptations to your bedroom could make a world of difference to the quality of sleep you achieve.

A Comfortable Bed

You will be surprised by the amount of people who buy a bed purely because of its appearance. Sure we all want it to look good, but a good night’s sleep should be equally as important if not more so. There is no reason you can’t have both.

Your mattress is an essential part of your bed and you should ensure it is still fit for the purpose. We all like our beds to feel different and sampling the mattress before you buy it will help ensure it is right for you.

There are a variety of firmness styles starting with soft, soft to medium, medium, medium to firm, firm and extra firm. This is not exclusive as some brands have their own scales.

Your sleeping position will indicate which type of mattress you should be sleeping on. It is said that people who sleep on their side or change position frequently throughout the night should be sleeping on a soft scale mattress. It is also recommended that our mattresses should be changed every 8 years according to Dreams. This is for hygienic reasons as well as comfort.

Using a weighted blanket for sleep can be a transformative experience. It offers a sense of comfort and relaxation that promotes a deeper and more restful night’s sleep. The gentle pressure applied by the evenly distributed weight of the blanket creates a sensation known as deep touch pressure, which can have a calming effect on the nervous system. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle with anxiety, insomnia, or sensory processing issues.

Temperature Of Your Room

The ideal sleeping temperature in the bedroom should be 20 degrees

It is hard to maintain a constant temperature in a room. The day temperature will be different to the night temperature naturally

Some people tend to be hotter generally and require a cooler bedroom to help them sleep

Ventilation into the bedroom, such as a slightly open window could possibly help with creating a better atmosphere and temperature in the room

Having the correct tog duvet for the time of year will also help keep your body at a suitable temperature for sleeping

Lighting In your Bedroom

We sleep best when it is dark

Blackout blinds and lined curtains will help reduce the glare from outside lights

Having bedside lamps will help with avoiding using the main light, it will also make reading easier before bed

Your Bedroom Decor

The colours you choose to decorate your bedroom will affect your mood while in there

The psychological research into colours and their effect on mood shows that muted pastels, white and beige are calming and ideal for a bedroom

Where bold and bright colours will not create the calming mood desired for sleep

There has been research conducted by Travelodge that says, people in blue bedrooms get the most sleep

So choose your bedroom colours wisely when you redecorate

Use A Scent Spray To Help With Sleep

People who sleep in clean freshly made beds tend to be happiest about sleeping. The smell of clean linen is a desired smell by the majority of people. This is why when we change our bed sheets it is often then we have a good night’s sleep. You can buy room sprays which stimulate the fresh linen scent.

Having the room free from artificial scents such as perfumes and diffusers will help keep the fresh air. Natural aromatherapy scents are a much better choice. The natural calming scent of lavender will help induce relaxation and allow you to drift off to a well deserved sleep.

There are some amazing sleep sprays I have tried and would recommend to most people who struggle with drifting off. These typically contain a lavender mix, take a look at some of the pillow mist sprays

Achieving the perfect night’s sleep is a holistic endeavour that involves consistency, mindful choices, and a supportive environment. Everyone has a different sleep routine and not all these techniques will work. If you are struggling to sleep it is worth a try.

Embrace these strategies, and watch as your nights become a sanctuary of tranquillity. It will lead to more energy, focus, and overall well-being in your waking hours. Sweet dreams await those who prioritise the art of a perfect night’s sleep.

I don’t think I’d heard a specific number put on the optimum temperature for sleep, before. That’s so interesting, I’ll have to give it a try.

Dont have your phone in the bedroom – invest in a silent alarm clock instead – its too easy to just check your emails or messages before sleeping and then it prevents you sleeping

All the above steps are the classic advice given on how to improve your sleep. A cool room is a must so you don’t become overheated under your duvet or blankets. For the last half or so before you go to be bed, don’t watch TV or do anything involving an electronic screen. These overstimulate the brain. Read a book or something light like a magazine instead.

We have removed the television from our room as my OH had a habit of turning it on when he could not sleep and that would wake me up

I am a light sleeper and do often struggle to sleep right through the night!
the only time I have slept for a full night was when I had to fast from 6pm until the next morning for a glucose test.
I slept sound all night! I am a great believer on not eating or drinking anything in the evening.

Most of us eventually get to know through trial and error what works for us: I have to have warm feet so need to wear socks and I also need blankets and sheets rather than a duvet.
I find that dimming the lights for about half an hour before they are switched off helps me wind down, even if I am not reading.
