Things To Do On Brighton Palace Pier

Living in Crawley, I have the pleasure of being a short drive from Brighton

I absolutely love day trips out in Brighton, there is always something the whole family will enjoy

The pier has to be one of my favourite places to go to while visiting

You could actually spend all day on the pier, especially if you enjoy fair rides and arcades

There is a lot to do, so I thought I could tell you some of my favourites

One of the first attractions you will see as you go onto the pier is a photo prop. They are comical character boards ,with holes cut out for you to put your head through. These are a free activity to do and they are a typically traditional seaside activity. You will find numerous designs of the dotted around the pier

As you walk along the pier you see a number of shops which sell various items. You can find gifts and souvenirs, as well as drinks and traditional sea side snacks, like candy floss and doughnuts. Lots of sweet treats to take home with you to remind you of your day of fun at the seaside. Quirky tops and hats printed in with characters and designs associated with a seaside town

Food & Drink

You will not be short of choice for places to eat lunch or dinner

There are numerous bars with restaurants scattered across the length of the pier, children are welcome in all of them. Depending on the time of year you visit, you might need to wait for a table. Waiting for a table is usually at peak times, for example school Summer holidays. You can always have a drink in the bar while you wait

If you are after the traditional seaside dish of fish and chips, you can buy these from shops right at the front of the pier as well. There are also hot dog and burger vendors, as well as a shellfish bar if you would rather your food to go.

You also have all those tasty sweet treats to enjoy. Doughnuts, crepes and churros are all available to buy. Along with tradition ice creams and frozen yoghurt. As well as rock sticks, candy floss and sugar traditional sweet shop sweets

This is a popular attraction to the pier, the sheer volume of arcades. If you enjoy a fruit machine, take your pick you will find vast amounts of them in the various arcades. There is also a high stake fruit machine section, which is for over 18’s only. The penny arcade is a favourite of mine. Changing up a £1 coin into a pot full of 2p’s and eagerly attempting to push that toy over the edge of the tipping point into my winnings. Who’s doesn’t want a cheap plastic toy as a momento of their day? Racing games to play as solo drivers or duo’s are another popular game in the arcades. Collecting tickets from challenge and skill machines, to then use to buy an item at the exchange can fill hours of your day

You will see lots of fun fair rides and attractions. There are height limits on most rides, so if you are going with younger children be aware you might not be able to access all the rides. There are more suitable rides for younger children as well so they can join in some of the fun too. The funfair rides can be a bit expensive in my opinion, ranging from £3.50-£5 per ride. You don’t pay cash for the rides directly to the assistants, you need to buy a preloaded card from the machine.  You also have an option of buying a wristband which gives you unlimited access to all the rides. My recent visit the wristband cost £20 and that does cover you for a full day riding. Not sure if this goes up at peak times

You can cater a day to however much or little you want to spend. There are deckchairs along the pier which you can sit and watch the world go by and soak up the atmosphere if you are on a budget

You can also take your own food and drink onto the pier, there is no bag search policy

Ultimately there is something for all the family to do and enjoy, it is always a great day out for us. The pier does not allowed dogs on there. If you take your pet dog on your day trips, this one they will have to sit out

If you like to hear about other free places to visit Jo has a great post about things to do for free in York

When we lived in South West London we used to enjoy going to Brighton, especially browsing the shops in the Lanes which always had lots of interesting things for sale.
