With the summer months providing that important vitamin D, it’s a good idea to try and spend more time outdoors. There are a number of ways to make the most of your outdoor space at home and this is a great way to spend more time in the sun.

Make The Most Of Your Outdoor Space

Whether you have a large garden or a small balcony you can adapt your space to make it more enjoyable. Smaller spaces mean you need to be more creative but it also makes them lower maintenance than a large garden area. Garden improvement ideas and details you can include to make the most of your outdoor space.

Seating Area In Your Garden

Having a nice area to sit in is crucial for you to spend prolonged periods of time in your garden. The number of people you are accommodating will indicate the size of the seating area you need or how many seats.

Bistro dining sets are perfect for a small courtyard garden if there are typically only 2 people using that space. If you are a large family you will need a big outdoor dining set to accommodate for you all. Whether you are planning on eating your meals using the table or just having your morning coffee, seating is pretty crucial.

Cook Outdoors

That familiar scent of charcoals cooking up a delight on the BBQ could become your reality to make you enjoy being outdoors more. Having a barbeque in your garden could encourage you to cook more alfresco.

The range of BBQs on the market varies hugely in size and quality. Gas barbeques are particularly popular for frequent use as they require less maintenance but they don’t give you that authentic grilled taste like a charcoal BBQ does.

Outdoor Lights

Adding some outdoor lights is crucial for setting the right scene as the nights draw in. Solar lights in my opinion are the best option as you can fit them yourself. However, the amount of sun your garden gets will dictate how well your lights work. Having mains-powered lights are very popular as well but will require professional installation.

There is a huge amount of different types of outdoor lights and they will suit every look and style of your outdoor space. Festoon lights hanging from a Pergola and staking mushroom lights into the ground are great ways to highlight a particular area.

Grow Some Vegetables

You can grow your own vegetables in something as small as a plant pot. Obviously the bigger the area or pot you have the more you can grow.

Growing your own food source can be very rewarding. Some crops take little to no work and will just grow away until ripe with you only needing to water them periodically.

Plant Flowers

Adding a bit of colour to your outside space is a great way to enjoy it more. The addition of flowers or plants to an otherwise plain set-up will make it feel more homely and tranquil.

If you are limited in space you can try and plant upwards or in tiers by using layered planters. Adding a trellis to a climbing planter will help encourage the plant to grow up and make the most of the space. This will make any plain brickwork walls or wooden fences more attractive to look at while you enjoy being in your outdoor space.

Whatever way you improve your outdoor living space will be unique to you and your needs. We all see beauty differently and however you choose to make the most of your outdoor space, just make sure you enjoy it. The summer months will soon pass and leave us wishing it was nicer weather to be able to be outside again and get that all-important vitamin D while you can.
