I recently took my dogs for a play at A Dog’s Life adventure field. Hiring secure fields for my dogs is something I do on a regular basis as it is great to do training with no distractions, this one is a bit different as it has activities in the field too. My A Dog’s Life field review was based on my booking in April 2023 which I made very simply through their website.

A Dog’s Life Adventure Field Review

This adventure field is based in Hookwood, Surrey which is close to Gatwick for reference if you aren’t local. It only opened within the past month or 2 and I had seen it posted on my local area’s Facebook page and was keen to book a session.

A session costs £15 and this gives you 55 minutes to enjoy the site. There is a 5-minute allowance for customer crossover as each booking is on the hour. It can be booked by an individual as well as a professional dog walker.

A Dog’s Life Field

The use of the adventure field is by appointment only, you can not just turn up. I had to book over a week in advance for the day and time slot I needed. When you go on the website you can book by choosing the available time you want, filling in your contact details and I chose to pay by Apple Pay, but a card is also an option.

All payments have to be made at the time of booking which secures your allotted time in the field. Some of the other fields I have used in the past allow you to pay cash in an honesty box, but that was not an option here.

Accessing the adventure field

On the approach to the field, you can see the sign which is by an opening in the hedges. You turn into the field’s waiting area directly from the A217 road. The nearest landmark is The Black Horse pub for reference and is on the same side as the pub too, just further along the road. The waiting area is space for 2 cars or 2 vans, certainly no more than that.

You are advised to arrive no more than 10 minutes before your session and you must stay in your vehicle while the field is in use by the previous customer. You will be able to clearly see if the field is in use as it is fully visible from the waiting area.

Once the previous customer comes out through the gate you are free to go in and lock the gate behind you. When you book you are given the padlock code via email with your booking confirmation to unlock the gate. No more than 2 vehicles can enter the field per booking but as far as I know, there isn’t a limit on the number of dogs you can take.

What to experience in the field

A Dog’s Life Adventure Field is a flat field, and when I visited it was quite muddy in some areas. We have been having a lot of rain so a lot of the fields are quite muddy right now.

The field is set on 6 acres of land and is fully secure. There are 6-foot high Herris fences all the way around the site keeping your dogs safely contained.

It is a great place to take your dog’s ball and launcher as there is so much flat space. Also one of the dogs I took loves playing with a Boomer Ball , and here is the perfect place as there aren’t hedges or bushes for it to get stuck under.

These climbing apparatuses were great fun for the dogs to sniff and climb over.

Having lots of new scents to sniff and obstacles to jump on was a real treat for them.

There is also a tyre swing which one of the dogs absolutely loved to play with. He was swinging back and forth with the tyre hanging from a tree and enjoyed giving it a good tug.

A brilliant section which is gated off so it’s optional if you want your dog to enjoy it or not is the swimming area. This is a corner of the park with a waist-high picket fence around it and a gate for access.

One of my dogs decided he would jump the fence and go in the pond before I had a chance to open the gate. They absolutely loved playing in the swimming area. It isn’t deep, I was wearing full-length wellies and I stood in the middle of the water easily.

All of the dogs I had with me are confident in the water and enjoyed a splash about.

A sheltered section with a couple of benches is also near the parking area so if you didn’t want to walk around you can wait under cover.

There were also a couple of picnic benches in the field which you could sit at.

At the end of the session, I gave them a quick wash down with the hose which is near the parking area. The accessible hose I was very thankful for as all of their paws were really muddy and my car would have been a lot worse otherwise. There were also a couple of dog bowls there which will be very handy as the weather gets warmer.

I loaded the dogs into the car, unlocked the gate, drove through and locked it on my exit. That was my session over.

A Dog’s Life Field Conclusion

This new secure dog field opening in the area has received rave reviews and I can see why after going there myself.

I usually pay £10 an hour for field hire but this one is bigger and has a lot more stimulation to offer the dogs. In my opinion is well worth the extra money. Also, I really like the online booking system so you can manage your booking and payment yourself. Plus I think having that spare 5 minutes in between customers makes the crossover better.

The only negative I can really find to mention is that it’s currently muddy…which is much like every other field in the area right now.

If you are visiting for the first time you could potentially miss the entrance. However, the field is visible from the main road so you shouldn’t have any problems locating it if you have to turn back around.

It would be a perfect field to hire for dog owners or even dog walkers in the area.
