The new year is here, and it’s time for people to start thinking about their new year’s skincare resolutions.
Many people make New Year’s resolutions to improve their health. Such as eating more fruits and vegetables and going to the gym more frequently.
There is a lot more we can do on a day-to-day basis to better ourselves or just make our bodies feel better. If now is the time you spend considering your appearance, then your skincare routine could also be something you reconsider in the new year.

Along with our physical appearance, our mental health is something you should also consider too whether that be a new self-care schedule or taking more time to practise meditation or gratitude.
We will start with our skincare new year’s resolutions and here are some ideas to help you have better skin this year.
New Year’s Skincare Resolutions
Use natural and clean skincare products
This is something we should all be leaning towards for a more ethical and sustainable future of skincare. A lot of brands are vegan and cruelty-free meaning there is so much more for us as consumers to choose from.
A brand I use regularly and have done for a number of years is The Body Shop. They are an affordable high street brand in the UK and are somewhere you can find skincare, beauty and cosmetics all natural and cruelty-free. Clean skincare and beauty products made with natural ingredients are gentle on your skin. They are packed with antioxidants and fatty acids that help nourish and protect it. This is especially important for those who suffer from both oily and dry skin. These natural ingredients are less likely to aggravate skin concerns or encourage breakouts and spots.
Clean your beauty tools
Start your new year skin routine with either new beauty clothes and make-up brushes or clean your existing beauty tools
Well-used and dirty make-up brushes can harbour bacteria which you are applying to your face. Even if you don’t share your make-up brushes with anyone else it is very important to keep them clean. Beauty blenders are especially important as they will remain damp after use and are a prime place for bacteria to grow.
It is equally as important to ensure your reusable make-up remover clothes and pads are clean too. When you are cleaning your face using a dirty tool will not serve as well as a nice clean pad. This is why a lot of people still opt to use cotton wool to remove their makeup and apply cleanser. If you are looking to make sustainable swaps then ensure you keep your reusable pads and clothes clean.
Always remove your daily make-up
Never go to bed with your makeup on. One of the most important parts of skincare as someone who wears makeup is ensuring you remove it at the end of each day. Daily makeup should be cleansed off your face before bed.
Sleeping in your makeup keeps your pores blocked for longer and you are more likely to suffer from spots. Spots often cause embarrassment and can take their toll on your mental health as well as require more makeup to cover them up. Also, unless you change your pillowcase daily which is highly unlikely then you are actually sleeping in the same make-up and dirty every night. If you are someone who suffers from acne and spots, try changing your pillowcase daily to see if it helps or even a silk pillowcase.
If you live in a high pollution area like a city centre you should also ensure you cleanse your face at the end of the day too.
Commit to wearing SPF daily
Sun damage is only the telltale sign of ageing and one of the biggest concerns with skincare. Anti-wrinkle and skin tone colour correctors from sun damage are one of the most sort after creams and serums.
Start your new year’s skincare resolutions by committing to wearing an SPF every single day. This isn’t something you will notice is doing a huge difference straight away but you will thank your younger self for it in years to come.
