Five Reasons You Should Not Skip Servicing Your Car

Servicing your car should be an important part of your year’s car maintenance schedule. With costs rising and people looking to save money where possible the task of servicing your car is important to keep you safe. This is especially important if you know little about maintaining your car. Women will be less likely statistically to be able to change oil and women are more likely to be injured in accidents. So for your own safety and the reliability of your family’s car do not skip your car service.

Nearly everyone is as the global economy wobbles on its axis once more. Regular visits to the hair salon are in the past, daily coffee has become an occasional treat, and switches are being switched off in droves in homes across the country – but one thing you should not skip is your car servicing.

Servicing Your Car

Do I Need To Service My Car?

It Is Actually A Saving

Imagine that you save your hundred-odd pounds of service money and continue to drive your car for another thousand miles or so. But then, suddenly, the transmission on your vehicle breaks, the exhaust pipes fall onto the road with a shocking loud clatter, or a tyre bursts, sending you out of control for a few intensely scary metres before you can regain control and get to the hard shoulder to take a few deep breaths. (Of course, there can be far worse outcomes, which are not to be imagined…) After the shock wears off you realise that the biggest catastrophe is going to be to your bank balance as you pay thousands for the repair or replacement of your vehicle.

Now, doesn’t that hundred-odd pounds on a service that will pick up these issues while they are still potentialities seem like rather a bargain after all?

It Is Convenient

In the example given above, you are left stranded on the side of the road, with all your commitments waiting for you, and no prospect of being able to deal with them, unless you are wealthy enough to hire a car or buy a new one with little delay.

Most people would have to wait for an insurance payout to get themselves back on the road, and that can mean the inconvenience of public transport, the kindness of friends or the expense of a hire car. In every local area, there are a number of local garages that offer car servicing.

For example, if you want to book car servicing in Buckinghamshire, you can check with Broadway Autocentres.

It Adds Value

The resale value of your car can be affected by its service record.

Detailed records of services undertaken as recommended alongside a car that is in excellent condition can push the price up, even over another car in identical condition but without that rigorous service, record to back up your claims of careful ownership.

Tops Up The Consumables

Without an annual service, some of the consumable parts in the car might wear out or be completely consumed without your noticing until it is too late.

Your oil and air filters might need replacing, your spark plugs can get dirty and need to be cleaned up, or your windscreen fluid reservoir might be running low – a seemingly minor problem, but one that can seriously impact your line of vision in traffic.

A service will take care of these as standard so that you never have to deal with the consequences of a neglected vehicle.

Make Sure You’re MOT ready

Your annual MOT test is a legal requirement, and arranging to have your major service just before the MOT test is a great way to make sure that you sail through the MOT without any issues.

Some garages even offer a free MOT with a service, meaning that you save the price of the MOT without losing anything.
