If you are considering getting Botox or another anti-wrinkle treatment and want to know what to expect, this will help. I have been getting Botox for a number of years now. I feel I’m pretty confident talking about if you are looking to have anti-wrinkle injections and want to know what to expect.
When I first started looking to get Botox injections a lot of people were trying to discourage me. People might have just been trying to reassure me that I was fine the way I was, but I wasn’t happy with this particular concern with my expression line.
I did my research and found a clinic I was happy with and the rest is history. Daisy Aesthetics also offers other non–surgical treatments which create natural looking results.
Since I was about 24 I have been getting Botox injections in my forehead and I am very pleased I started when I did. I have them to help smooth out an expression line that I noticed had gradually been getting deeper and more noticeable.
I’ve had an office job since I was 16, and sitting at a computer screen is most likely to be the cause of this line developing. Squinting at the screen and not wearing glasses when I probably should have been. Genetics also play a vital role in how your muscles age in your body.
I am also very expressive with my face, which doesn’t help the muscle relax as I do like to talk.
Plus naturally, with age, these lines can appear where your collagen levels decrease. It is a lot more common after the age of 25 as your body really slows down this collagen production unless you boost your collagen levels
There are some alternatives to Botox that should be considered before getting Botox treatments. Neuromodulator treatments are also quite popular they are carried out the same as Botox ie: via injections but the results can be visible sooner. If you are interested in neuromodulator treatments, check out the services offering neuromodulators in New Albany, IN (or wherever you are!) then maybe add a peel to the treatment plan for enhanced results.
Considering Getting Botox
Applying a full face of makeup, including primer and foundation, which is where my problem becomes more apparent. After maybe just an hour of wear, you notice the line in my head again. As the day goes on the line becomes more and more noticeable. To the point where it is darker than the rest of my face.
The line seems to collect the makeup in it. Once it’s there, the only way to get rid of it is to take my makeup off.
When you are out and about shopping, or in a bar or club that’s the last thing you want or can do.
It really began to grind on me and my confidence in how I looked. I tried cutting in a fringe and a side fringe to make me feel less conscious about it, but it never worked.
Getting Botox
I decided to try Botox injections to get rid of the line.
The forehead area includes my upper brow, along my hairline as part of the treatment. Having the injections along the hair line is to lift the muscles which are creating the line.
I was pretty scared the first time I went into a clinic.
After asking a few questions, and being asked a load of health questions, I signed the forms and said ‘Let’s do this’.
The needle was small and nothing like I thought it would be. It looked to be about 2 centimetres long and might have even been shorter.
For me, that was a huge relief as I was dreading seeing the needle. I had these visions of a long needle like what you get injections with, but it was nothing like that.
My forehead was cleaned by the surgeon, and they marked out a few dots on my head according to my facial expressions. Then I was ready to start my treatment.
Before and After Botox
Just finished you can see the little bumps where the Botox was injected
It was all over a lot quicker than expected.
A few moments of strange pressure and a few small scratches’ when the needle went in but actually it is pretty painless.
When I say pretty painless, I felt the anxiety of waiting for it to happen far worse than the actual injections themselves.
Plus as soon as it’s done there is no lasting pain. I was told that you can get bruising but I have never had any even on my first time.
I was given the mirror and explained again about what they had done, and what to expect with botox aftercare. Basically, treat the area like an open wound for a few days. Avoid getting it wet and don’t use makeup or chemicals on it for at least 48 hours.
In 3-5 days the line should be pretty much gone. It can take longer to take effect depending on what brand of anti-wrinkle product your practitioner is using.
I was asked to come back in two weeks for a ‘top up’ as part of the procedure. This is just to make sure enough product has been put into the muscle to create the desired effect.
Every clinic I have used over the years books you a top-up appointment 2 weeks after the initial treatment. Always book the appointment as it is part of the procedure and does not cost any more.
My head felt strange, a bit sore along my hairline but nothing like what I expected.
15 minutes after Botox injections
30 minutes after Botox
The line was a lot less noticeable and by the third day it was completely gone which was what I wanted and was told to expect
It takes a few days for the Botox to work and the effects to be noticeable.
I now regularly have Botox injections in my forehead about every 4 months, just to ensure the lines don’t return. If I leave it longer than 6 months the expression line will be noticeable again. This is when I become self-conscious about it.
I am so much happier knowing I can wear a full face of makeup without this line across my forehead.
Botox treatment price tag is about £170 for just 1 area, this does also include your top-up visit 2 weeks later. Some newly qualified injectors will charge less because they have far less experience. I have had it done for as cheap as £100 before by someone who was quite newly qualified and I had to go back to her 3 more times until I was happy.
I have been having Botox injections for over a decade and I have not had any other long-term effects from the treatments. Once the botox has worn off the line will start to re-occur. Keeping my treatments done regularly means I never had to have this unwanted line across my forehead ever again.
There are a variety of creams, lotions and serums which claim to smooth out lines. So far I have not found one which gives results that I am happy with like the results from Botox injections.
Botox isn’t for everyone but I am pleased to say it is for me. Having botox injections really helps with my confidence as the treatments really transform my expression lines. so if your considering getting Botox hopefully this gives you some insight of what to expect.
