Celebrating Easter with Easter eggs is not believe it or not how Easter started
In the Christian tradition, Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb.
This was on the third day after his crucifixion
It is believed that as Jesus rose from his tomb on a Sunday, three days after he died on the cross which is Good Friday
Therefore the celebration of this rising should always be a Sunday, hence Easter Sunday
The date that Easter Sunday falls on is decided by the first full moon after the vernal equinox
This changes year after year. This is why Easter is celebrated earlier in some years than others.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Easter, isn’t the Christian parable and teachings of the resurrection of the body of Jesus. It’s yummy chocolate Easter Eggs and chocolate generally.

Why Do We Have Easter Eggs?
The egg became a part of Easter celebrations as many ancient cultures see the egg as a symbol of life.
In many areas, eggs were forbidden during Lent. Therefore after Lent, they became a delicacy hence them being used during Easter. Lent ends on Saturday before Easter Sunday, every year, it is the tradition.
The Easter bunny became a part of the Easter tradition because of the associated fertility of a hare or rabbit. This refers back to the egg and life. The hare is also an ancient symbol of the moon.
The moon contributes to the date Easter is celebrated each year in the calendar. Therefore the hare cements its place in the Easter celebrations.
The History of Easter
We have France and Germany to thank for the invention of the chocolate Easter egg. These delicious treats were invented in the 19th century.
However, they were initially a very bitter taste and also hard to bite. Over the years as chocolate making and creating techniques evolved, so did the taste and appearance of the Easter egg which is enjoyed today.
Easter eggs are given as a gift to friends and family each year to celebrate this tradition.

There are leaders in the market like Cadbury and Nestle who have a vast amount of Easter eggs in production.

Easter is my favourite time of the year but even I often forget the real reason behind it! Chocolate is always a bonus but actually taking to time appreciate the true meaning is also great!
I look forward to Easter, almost as much as Christmas, mainly because of the Easter Eggs & hot cross buns. I remember when I was a kid, just after Easter, my local shop would sell broken easter egg chocolate from a jar, it would be a mixture of milk chocolate (YAY!), white (yay!) or dark (boo!). I always thought easter egg chocolate tasted better. But it does seem sometimes we lose sight of the real reason for Easter.

This is great – we always do an easter hunt, not just for eggs, but I usually get the kids something that isn’t made of chocolate as well, like a book or a small toy

I was brought u as a christian and went to a faith school I have always held an open mind and teaach my kids the faith but allow and open mind, sadly easter is lost amoung all the other days that are just pushed for the gain of profit and the result is mass commercial products. that encourage greed. Having said that i do buy eggs and spend time with my family too

Easter is a nice time of year, as Spring :- When new life is just beginning. Such as green leaves on the trees, flowers blooming, chicks hatching from eggs :- Chicks heard chirping, etc.
Have bought Easter eggs as gifts for Easter Time. Though have varied how we celebrate Easter.
I thought egg :- reminder of stone rolled away from tomb. Jesus resurrection :- New Life. Egg, a symbol of new life. As rolling eggs ( hard boiled eggs with egg shell painted) downhill, symbolises stone rolling away from tomb. Jesus resurrection.
I do enjoy chocolate. As do family and friends.

Easter is one of my favourite times, because we always have a big family bbq. We have an easter egg hunt and play games. I was brought up Catholic, but have always seen Easter as more of a celebration of new life, changing seasons and growth, rather than a religious festival

Yes the kids still have eggs even at 24,22 and 20!! I still buy eggs for my nieces and nephews, a total of 10 eggs and a big one for my beautiful partner !! So it’s chocolate all round in our family, loved your article by the way !!
