Home is where the heart lives, my interpretation being home is where you are most happy
This saying has a lot of meaning and is completely true, for most people
However, we all have a different idea of home and what home is like
The majority of people will say that home is where you find a sense of comfort, safety and belonging. But these are emotional feelings which we crave
Senses
People have scents that they associate with home
That smell of the laundry detergent on their clothes or the smell of the coffee machine which sits in the kitchen
Sounds that you hear at home such as the buzzing of the fridge or freezer and the sound of the dishwasher on its cycle
It is even the sense of knowing once you have shut your front door, the world is on the outside
You can put on your slippers and light those candles and relax
Your home will always be the place for which you feel the deepest affection, no matter where you are
If you have ever felt homesick you miss those feelings of familiarity more than a specific item
Make It Your Style
When you move to a new home, it has been styled by someone else
This style might be something you like, but it isn’t necessarily how you would do it yourself
To change the soft furnishings or to add soft furnishings will change the dynamics and ambiance of a room. A curtain on a window or cushion on the sofa will change the look
Some paint on the walls to change the feel, or brighten the room up, will also make a huge difference to how you view it
These do not need to be expensive and can easily be created by you

Use Your Belongings
One word…unpack
If you are anything like me, when I move there is always a few boxes that I take forever to unpack when you have just moved
It will help you feel more settled if you make places for all your belongings in your new home
It’s important you feel at home in your space, and you have every right to make your living environment your own, even if you are renting
Therefore, no matter whether you own your home or are renting it, make sure you fully unpack your belongings
This will have a huge impact on how quickly you feel at home
It is imperative you find that way to make your home feel like your home. Your familiar belongings and your routine which makes you happy
It can take a while to feel like this when you move to a new home
These are a just a few of my suggestions which I feel could help you feel more at home
Home is a feeling, and it isn’t something that can be purchased
It’s much more about how you use the space, as this will determine how we feel about it, and spending the time to appreciate what we have in our own
Let me know, is there is something you associate with home?
