Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Review

Dyson is constantly surprising us by regenerating their products, and one that I am still enjoying is the Supersonic Hair Dryer

The supersonic hairdryer has spent 4 years in the making and costing a whopping £50 million

There has been 600 prototypes made and tested on over 1,000 miles of human hair

The aim with the supersonic was to create the fastest, quietest and hair friendly hair dryer in existence

First Impressions

I went for the fuchsia pink version, but there are a number of different colours to choose from

The un-boxing of the hair dryer was itself a whole new experience too. There are a number of seals keeping the box carefully sealed, before you even get to the dryer. Thats not a complaint as I felt more assured my hair dryer got to me undamaged

The sleeve comes off and the attachments are all sitting pretty in a moulded box. The hair dryer doesn’t really look like any hair dryer I have used before

Design & Features

I was expecting a lightweight design but it isn’t, it doesn’t weight any less than my existing hair dryer. However, it is noticeably smaller and would be great to take in hand luggage

The design of the Supersonic is drastically different from a regular hair dryer as the motor is digital, and it is so small it sits in the handle, rather than at the back like a regular hairdryer. The advantage being to this is that you don’t get the dreaded arm ache you get from when drying long hair. This is a massive plus for me as I have long, thick hair and drying often strains my arm where I am holding the dryer for so long

Using the dryer you will notice the air is faster and a lot more powerful than a regular hairdryer. This aims to dry your hair quicker without using excessive heat. This is due to the heat-protection sensor which stops the dryer getting too hot and causing damage to your hair

Another thing to note about the design is that all the attachments are magnetic meaning it is pretty quick and easy to attach any attachments

Control & Use

With the weight of the dryer being so well balanced, drying my hair seems a lot less of a chore

The controls to adjust the speed and heat are on the back on the dryer and there is a small button to adjust each, with 4 settings

The Verdict

I am exceptionally pleased with the dryer

My hair is a lot less damaged and frazzled from heat since I have been using it. I have also noticed my hair seems to have grown a lot more, I can only assume this is to where it has broken less from the heat

Hair drying even in the heat wave we had this year has been a breeze in comparison to using my traditional dryer

I do not dread washing my hair in the fear I will be sitting drying it for ages after, which is a huge plus for me as it often feels like such a chore. I am definitely not missing getting achy arm from holding a traditional dryer

The noise of the supersonic dryer does not wake up the whole house. So whether it is early morning or late night, it doesn’t matter as it wont wake them

The only negative I can think of which is quite an important one, is the price tag £299

If you value your time this dryer will save you a considerable amount of it. You will no longer need to pay for Brazilian blow dries. Also, if you have regular trims to manage the broken ends from the heat damage, you wont need these as frequently as you wont get as many

Another option is to buy the dryer through a retailer where you get rewarded

For example, if you are a Boots Advantage Card holder you get points for purchases, which in turn you can use to pay for other purchases. If you buy it when there is a bonus points event you will get even more points

This for me is an investment piece, it saves me time and my hair is in much better condition
